Open Outcry Auction
The open outcry is the most widely recognized auction method, and the most traditional. The seller sets the terms for the auction. Before it takes place, pre-sale marketing and due diligence are conducted, and bidders are pre-qualified with certified funds. The event takes place at a predetermined date, time and location, and it is conducted live.

Sealed Bid
The sealed bid auction is also held at a predetermined date and time, and the terms of the sale are preset. However, offers are submitted sealed, or privately, to a specified location, rather than openly in front of one another. The seller reviews the offers in a closed-door environment. This format allows more control over the transaction. The sealed bid auction tends to be more ideal for hard to value assets, where the seller has the option to request “best and final” offers from qualified buyers in a competitive price range.
